Our Story

Lean To Coffee is ran and owned by Skye-born Seren and Australian-born Lorenz. Operating from Seren's family croft in Breakish on the Isle of Skye.

Seren and Lorenz met while Seren was backpacking around Australia in 2010. They eventually decided to settle in Australia and spent their 20’s together enjoying Australian coffee culture. They pursued their love for travel, spending 2 years  on a working holiday visa in Canada.

It was while traveling the West coast of Canada the idea of Lean to was born. They spent their 2020/21 ski season perfecting the cinnamon bun recipe that is still used for their cinnamon buns today!

They were able to bring  their dream to a reality by self converting a 20ft shipping container on Seren’s fathers croft.

Lean To opened its doors in September 2021 after they spent the summer learning new skills including: rendering, tape and filling, concreting and how to fix coffee machines. They've created the kind of place they love to visit themselves during their travels. Their vision was to embrace Skye with Australian influences.

Whether you're a local popping in for your morning coffee or exploring the island for the first time, they look forward to welcoming you.

Lean To expanded in 2026, opening their Broadford bakery

The bakery in Broadford is where the magic starts. Every morning, their bakers make everything by hand - from flaky pastries to golden buns, before they transport the goods down the road to the café in Breakish.
